The Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority, in partnership with the City of Iron Mountain Tree Board, is working to restore the trees in the heart of Downtown. In the past few years, invasive Emerald Ash-borer and environmental stressors killed 15-20 trees planted in Downtown, including all but one of the trees on A Street.
The A Street area Downtown is the vibrant heart of our community, bustling with events throughout the year and people shopping at local businesses. Therefore, removing and replacing the trees in this area is a top priority. The Iron Mountain DDA and Tree Board are actively intensifying their efforts to address this issue. With grant funding support and robust local fundraising initiatives, we are confident that our community will successfully acquire and plant new trees in the spring of 2025.
The total cost of replacing 15-20 trees is $30,000. This cost includes site preparation, planting, and tree maintenance. To help jump-start this effort, the Iron Mountain DDA is pleased to announce that The Friends of the Iron Mountain DDA received a $20,000 grant from The Toro Company Greenspace Enhancement Grant Program in the fall of 2024 to assist in replacing downtown trees and equipment for the Downtown Flowers program. Another $10,000 will be needed to ensure this downtown revitalization project comes to fruition in the spring of 2025.
We invite local businesses, citizens, and organizations to help us propel this project forward through donations. All proceeds will go directly into a special fund for the project. This project is essential to restoring green space in Downtown Iron Mountain and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for businesses, events, and other important Downtown activities. All contributions are much appreciated, and no donation is too small! With help from the entire community, our fundraising goal of $10,000 can become a reality.
You can make a contribution online using the green button on this web page, drop off a payment at Iron Mountain City Hall, or mail a payment to the Iron Mountain DDA at 501 S. Stephenson Avenue, Iron Mountain, MI 49801. Please make all checks payable to “Friends of The Iron Mountain DDA” and write “trees” in the memo area. All contributions are made to a 501c3 non-profit organization and are tax-deductible.
Please consider donating to the Downtown Tree Project this holiday season.
Thank you!
